FEATURING THE VINCE GUARALDI & BOLA SETE COLLABORATIONS

Join the Bossa Nova Breakfast this week as we feature the creative, but all too brief, musical collaboration of pianist Vince Guaraldi and guitarist Bola Sete. Known to the jazz world for his 1962 recording Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus, which included the hit song “Cast Your Fate to the Wind”, Guaraldi eventually gained fame with a larger audience through his original compositions and arrangements for the animated “Peanuts” television series. Rio de Janeiro born guitarist Bola Sete moved to the US in the late 1950s, and took part in the famous Carnegie Hall Bossa Nova Concert in 1962 before joining with Dizzy Gillespie’s band for a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival and a subsequent tour. By 1963 Sete had become a regular member of Guaraldi’s trio in San Francisco, recording several albums and making numerous appearances with the pianist during the following three years.

The Bossa Nova Breakfast will be featuring some of the duo’s finest bossa-influenced music from their Fantasy Records releases Vince Guaraldi & Bola Sete and Friends, and Live at El Matador (Now part of the single CD reissue “Vince & Bola”) as well as From All Sides. Tune-in to hear their collaborations on “Mambossa”, “O Morro Nao Tem Vez”, “Star Song”, “The Girl from Ipanema”, “Little Fishes” and “More (Theme from Mondo Cane)”.
